In the quest to make America less dependent on imported oil from the middle east there might be a sweet solution, Sugar Cane, Farmers have been planting Sugar Cane in Louisiana, Hawaii and Florida for many years,Sugar Cane has been used in the past just to sweeten other products,however it can also be used to make Ethanol,Since Beet and Corn are now more widely used as sweetners,Corn and Beet production have gone up recently,while Sugar Cane production have gone down,one of the many reasons for this is the cost,another is the amount of states that can produce Sugar Cane about 4,compare to about 40 that can produce Beet and Corn, maybe Sugar Cane can now be used exclusively to produce Ethanol,the technology is avaliable,the land and labour is avaliable,and if more land and labour is needed that is also avaliable in Jamaica and other Caribbean Islands.
